I usually have my hands on several projects at once (such as this website!), but here are a few of my current timesinks and moneypits.
MLP Fandom/Bronies
YouTube Uploads
Every week (or so), a new episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic airs on the Hub. I happen to have FiOS TV, so I decided to give something back to the community by being the fastest uploader to supply HD ponies for the masses. I built a $4k computer, complete with an HD USB DVR device and all kinds of software to
make it happen. I'm pretty occupied with that for most of every Saturday.
Ponytube.tv
This is a project I've been contemplating for a while, but really haven't moved forward with due to an excessive cost and literally $0 return. Essentially, an alternative streaming service specifically designed to
stream the new episodes both live during air and afterward. Due to aforementioned ridiculous costs ($1700/mo anyone?) the idea was changed into a hub of both, using existing providers like YouTube and Livestream. Project completion date: unknown.
NTxBronies
I'm a huge fan of creating a community around common interests, and that's what I tried to do when I started this one. This site is for all of my local Bronies to get together and talk about, well, whatever! It is also used as a
communication hub to transmit info about local meetups and events.
Car Projects
2007 VW Rabbit
My current car. I drive this thing between 500 and 1000 miles per week, so I can't go too crazy on it.
Unlike my last car, it has been the pinnacle of reliability, and I will not be modifying it in a way that could comprimise its perfect record. Mods are as follows: H&R Coilovers, BBS CH 18" wheels, Falken 912 225/40R18 tires, Pioneer P4200DVD head unit w/ Bluetooth, Focal 6.5" component speakers, JL Audio Slash amps, JL Audio 12W3v3 subs, H7R 4300k HID headlights, GTI big brake kit, GTI catback exhaust, Euroswitch, OEM aespherical mirrors, Votex front lip, custom painted coolant tank. 2002 VW Passat Turbo (sold)
This car was a beauty. I am so proud of it's successful combination of modifications and personalizations for both aesthetics and performance.
Unfortunately, it was plagued with strange and detremental mechanical issues which forced me to sell it in favor of something more reliable. Instead of me listing out its mods, I will just link you to its page at PassatWorld. Link. Pictures: 1 2 3
Computers
The Beast
My main desktop.
This system is absolutely nuts. Until extremely recently, it was quite literally considered top-of-the-line. Despite all of its headaches, it was extremely worth the price of the build. This system is complete. Specs/Pics.
The Fragbox
A portable project system build out of remnants of my old PC. I did a LOT of casemodding on this guy. It's definitely the loudest computer I own since I built it to run in a loud environment and it required a lot of cooling. It's decently powerful, or at least it's good enough to run most games at 1680x1050 with all the shinies. This system is incomplete! Specs/Pics.
Other Systems
My other systems include a rather potent HTPC capable of moderate gaming, a host of servers for things like this website, Lapfox Radio,
and data storage, a slightly dated but SSD-equipped Dell XPS M1530, and several other miscellaneous systems performing various tasks. I have a lot of computers. |
